The return of selected container services to the Suez Canal is shortening transit times between India and the U.S. East Coast, creating potential benefits for importers and supply chain planning.
Maersk has shifted its MECL service back to the Suez Canal, reducing the transit time from Nhava Sheva, India, to Savannah to approximately 28 days. CMA CGM is also returning its Indamex service to the Suez route, shortening transit time on the India–Savannah corridor.
Several carriers are gradually restoring Suez and Red Sea routings after previously diverting vessels around the Cape of Good Hope. The longer routing had increased sailing distances, transit times, and vessel requirements across several major trade lanes.
